Here is one worth keeping an eye on. uAvionix and Jeppesen ForeFlight have announced SkyPlay — a project to bring the familiar ForeFlight interface directly into the aircraft panel. As a uAvionix dealer, we will be following it closely, and wanted to put it on your radar early.
Status, stated plainly: SkyPlay has just been announced and is making its public debut on simulators at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh this month. Pricing, shipping, and availability have not yet been announced, and there is no installation path yet. This is an early look at something coming, not a product you can order today.
The idea behind it
Most panel upgrades come with a learning curve: a new box with its own knobs, menus, and logic to master, while the EFB on your knee works differently again. SkyPlay's stated aim is to close that gap by bringing the core ForeFlight experience — the same mapping, routing, and workflow pilots already use on the iPad — into the panel itself. Plan a flight on the tablet, sync it once you are in the aircraft, and manage it from either interface in the air.
Sensibly, the concept pairs the touchscreen with proper tactile control knobs, acknowledging that touchscreens alone are hard work in turbulence or with gloves on. The broader pitch is modern, connected capability for certified and experimental aircraft without a full panel redesign — which, if it delivers, is exactly the kind of realistic upgrade path owners keep asking for.
Why we are flagging it now
It is early — this is a partnership announcement and a trade-show demonstration, not a shipping product. But the direction is genuinely interesting, and if SkyPlay develops the way it is being described, it could become a compelling option for owners who live in ForeFlight already. We will share more as concrete details, pricing, and availability emerge — and, in due course, what it means for South African aircraft.
