Reminder: Garmin's GSA 28 Servo Exchange Program Ends 4 May 2028

If your Garmin autopilot has a GSA 28 pitch, roll, or trim servo, this is worth two minutes of your time.

Back in May 2023, Garmin launched a Service-Life Extension Program for the GSA 28 servo — the pitch, roll, and trim actuator used across the GFC 500 (certified aircraft) and G3X/G3X Touch/G5/GI 275-based autopilot systems (experimental and non-certified aircraft). A number of GSA 28 units built before September 2022 are eligible for a free warranty exchange to an updated unit with reliability improvements built in — but the exchange window doesn't run forever.

Which servos are affected

Garmin identifies affected units by part number and serial number:

  • Certified aircraft (GFC 500): all part number 011-02927-11 units, and any 011-02927-21 units not marked with "Mod 1."
  • Non-certified aircraft (G3X/G3X Touch/G5/GI 275): all part number 011-02927-00 and 011-02927-11 units, and any 011-02927-20 or 011-02927-21 units not marked with "Mod 1."

Newly manufactured units marked with Mod 1 have been shipping since September 2022, so if your servo was installed more recently, it may already be current. Garmin publishes the specific affected serial number ranges here:

General programme information is also available directly from Garmin at garmin.com/GSA28Info.

The deadline that matters

The programme allows up to five years from the date of the original service bulletins (4 May 2023) to exchange an affected servo under warranty — which puts the deadline at 4 May 2028. After that date, exchanges may still be possible, but not necessarily under the current warranty terms.

If you've been meaning to get to this "at some point," this is a good nudge to fold it into your next scheduled maintenance or annual inspection, rather than treat it as a separate trip to the hangar.

What to do next

As an authorised Garmin dealer, we can check whether your GSA 28 falls within the affected serial number ranges, arrange the exchange through Garmin, and complete the swap and post-installation checks as part of your next visit. Bring us your servo's part and serial number — usually visible on the unit's label, or we're happy to help you locate it — and we'll take it from there.
